Former US president Donald Trump marked his return to X (formerly known as Twitter) with a tweet of his mugshot that garnered more than 730 000 likes and an upvote from the platform’s owner, Elon Musk.

Trump, whose presidential campaign has been marred with repeated indictments, was formerly processed at the Fulton County jailhouse in Atlanta, Georgia, on Thursday, 24 August 2023, where he and 18 alleged co-conspirators face RICO charges related to the 2020 US election.
While the mainstream media, for the most part, bellowed in triumph over the possible dent in Trump’s resurgence as a favourite to prevent President Joe Biden from securing another term in office, the ‘Make America Great Again’ envoy used the notoriety of the mugshot to fuel his anti-leftist propaganda.
Despite turning down several opportunities to reactivate his X account on repeated occasions in the past, Trump saw it opportune to turn to the masses in his darkest hour.
Sure, he has Truth Social but the platform only services one side of the political spectrum. Trump needed the largest audience to tune up his narrative that the left is engineering the greatest election fraud in US history.
So, in classic Trump fashion, the 45th US president logged into his X account and sent the platform into a frenzy with this tweet:

Trump captioned his tweet with a link to a landing page with a statement on his arrest in Atlanta. Today, at the notoriously violent jail in Fulton County, Georgia, I was ARRESTED despite having committed NO CRIME. The American people know what’s going on.
“What has taken place is a travesty of justice and ELECTION INTERFERENCE.The Left wants to intimidate YOU out of voting for a political outsider who puts the American people FIRST. But today, I walked into the lion’s den with one simple message on behalf of our entire movement: I WILL NEVER SURRENDER OUR MISSION TO SAVE AMERICA,” Trump wrote.
Meddled in the thick plumes of mist from his potent propaganda, Trump made a plea for donations.
The former US president is collecting donations to, in his own words, “evict Crooked Joe Biden from the White House and SAVE AMERICA during this dark chapter in our nation’s history.”
“Your contribution will benefit Trump Save America Joint Fundraising Committee,” the page reads.
