This remarkable achievement was for his work on The Daily Show, which he hosted on Comedy Central.
Noah’s win was not just a personal victory but also a significant moment in Emmy history, breaking new ground for diversity and representation in the television industry.
The Emmy Awards, which celebrated its 75th anniversary, witnessed several historic wins for people of colour.
Alongside Noah, stars like Niecy Nash-Betts and Ayo Edebiri also secured major wins, making the event a celebration of diversity and talent.
Trevor Noah’s journey to this groundbreaking achievement began with his tenure on The Daily Show.
Taking over from Jon Stewart in 2015, Noah brought a fresh perspective to the show, infusing it with his unique brand of humour and insights drawn from his South African upbringing and global experiences.
“This story has been so long, so crazy, so wonderful. Thank you so much to the team and the person I always thank, the crazy genius, Jon Stewart. Thank you for calling me up and asking me to come join you on this crazy journey”,” Noah said in his acceptance speech.
Under his leadership, The Daily Show continued to be a critical platform for satirical news coverage, political commentary, and engaging interviews, often tackling complex global issues with intelligence and wit.
Noah’s approach to hosting The Daily Show was marked by his ability to connect with a wide range of audiences.
His background as a mixed-race South African during apartheid gave him a distinctive voice in American late-night television.
He often used his personal experiences to shed light on social and political issues, earning both critical acclaim and a loyal viewership.
Noah left The Daily Show in 2023 to return to standup comedy.
“Maybe this comes with not being raised in America, but I believe that everything should end. A lot of American business and American media is just like, ‘Keep it going as long as possible,’ but I think it’s healthy for things to end when they’re still in a good place. I want to leave before I’m burnt out, because there are many other things I’d like to do,” he said at the time.
The comedian now hosts his What Now? podcast on Spotify.
