The ex-footballer was thrust into a fiery cheating scandal earlier this week. His scorned wife, Sonia, has been on a social media tirade since she first exposed the former Bafana Bafana defender’s alleged love affair with fitness guru Bongani Mthombeni-Möller.
On Wednesday, Sonia sent a shockwave of worry across the internet when she posted a video showing a man she identified as Matthew walking away from her vehicle at the fitness centre’s parking lot at approximately 18:00.
In the clip, the former model accuses Matthew of tracking her down to the gym using the Jaguar app and using her spare key to get into her vehicle and move things around.
According to the mother of two, instinct drove her to abandon a training session she was busy with inside the Virgin Active branch and go inspect her vehicle.
That’s when she supposedly caught Matthew standing near her car. Here is the video clip she posted on her page, informing her followers that if anything happens to her, they ought to know who is responsible.
Matthew Booth sends lawyers after his wife amid cheating scandal
For the first time since news of the cheating scandal first surfaced, Matthew released a statement addressing the allegations on Wednesday.
In a statement, the former Mamelodi Sundowns centre-back dismissed the allegations lodged by his wife as an attempt to “tarnish my name without discussing them with me.”
“This matter has been handed over to my attorneys who have been instructed to vigorously take the necessary steps to claim the appropriate relief. I will leave this to the legal system and let the truth prevail in court,” Matthew wrote.
SuperSport has also chimed into the debacle, effectively removing itself from the scandal. In a statement to City Press, the sports channel’s spokesperson Clinton van der Berg made it clear that they were in no position to meddle in the football pundit’s private affairs.
“We have a simple line which we have and that is, SuperSport is aware of the allegations involving Matthew Booth, which are private,” he said.
