Former Bafana Bafana centre-back Matthew Booth has lashed out in response to the cheating scandal uncovered by his wife, Sonia.
Matthew Booth addresses cheating scandal
The retired Mamelodi Sundowns defender, renowned in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) as ‘The White Knight’, launched a vicious charge at his author wife, categorically dismissing her assertions that he’s been embroiled in a steamy love affair with fitness guru Bongani Mthombeni-Möller.
In a statement he posted on social media, Booth categorically denied the accusations as “unfounded”. The ex-footballer blasted his scorned wife for maliciously attempting to “tarnish my name without discussing them (the allegations) with me.”
Booth criticised Sonia for disregarding “the damage that these allegations will cause, especially to our minor children who are in the middle of their final exams and to the Mthombeni-Möller family.”
In response to the cheating scandal, Booth vowed to unleash his attorneys on his wife with every intention of claiming what he describes as “the appropriate relief.”
“I will leave this to the legal system and let the truth prevail in due course,” he added.
The former Bafana Bafana star pleaded with the Mthombeni-Möller family, including his sponsors and partners of his Booth Trust “not to allow this personal matter to deter the good work that’s being done, and that which lies ahead.”
As reported by City Press, Booth has found support from SuperSport, where he provided punditry for their football coverage. According to the sports channel, Booth’s marital problems fall within his private capacity and thus, they will not be involved in taking any action.
“We have a simple line which we have and that is, SuperSport is aware of the allegations involving Matthew Booth, which are private,” SuperSport spokesperson Clinton van der Berg said.
Booth, it seems, will remain contracted as a PSL analyst.
Sonia Booth, on the other hand, has continued on her warpath. Here are the latest posts she’s published about the cheating scandal:
