The assault took place three years ago, and Lorch recently appeared in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court, where the verdict was delivered. Sentencing has been scheduled for 23 July 2023.
The case originated from a complaint lodged by Mathithibala in September 2020. According to her account, she was visiting Lorch at his residence and requested her car keys when he left her to go out with a friend.
As the evening grew late, Mathithibala messaged Lorch to return her keys. Upon his arrival, a heated argument ensued, during which Lorch allegedly became violent, strangling and physically assaulting her.
Mathithibala managed to call for assistance, and Lorch’s friend intervened to protect her.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) released a statement stating that the medical evidence supported Mathithibala’s testimony, highlighting Lorch’s lack of injuries, and indicating that he was the primary aggressor in the altercation.
The NPA also noted that Lorch and his witness presented themselves poorly in court, casting doubt on their credibility as witnesses.
