Reports have rung out that Orlando Pirates footballer Thembinkosi Lorch woke up in a prison cell on Monday, after a night of wildness that ended in his girlfriend, Nokuphiwa Mathithibala, allegedly assaulted.
Lorch in jail for assault: Here’s what we know
Based on reports published by Sunday World, it’s believed the footballer’s girlfriend opened a case of assault. The details of this are still unverified at this moment.
However, we understand that the couple got into it at Lorch’s residential complex in Midrand, Johannesburg, on Sunday.
According to a source known only to the cited publication, Mathithibala filed the docket at Midrand police station after alleging that she was choked and slapped by Lorch.

The girlfriend reportedly claims that for merely asking where he was the whole of Sunday, she was allegedly attacked. Authorities arrested Lorch and placed him in a cell, in the wee hours of Monday morning.
This was after he had allegedly left with his car, as well as Mathithibala’s. following the altercation.
Orlando Pirates have since issued a statement, basically stating that they are aware of the incident and that the law will be allowed to take its course before any punitive action is taken from their end.
“This matter is currently in the hands of the authorities. As a club we cannot comment further except to say that we condemn all forms of violence, especially violence against women and children. We support the rights of each and every individual but we strongly condemn violence,” the statement read.
Who is Nokuphiwa Mathithibala?
The relationship between Lorch and Mathithibala has, until now, flourished away from the limelight. The couple follow each other on social media but nowhere did we find pictures of one on the other’s Instagram page.
From what we know about Mathithibala, she is a life coach from Matatiele, Eastern Cape. We could not confirm her age or educational background.
However, according to her website, she is “a highly qualified life coach “
Aside from claims that she works with professional football players, we could find no client references.
