Quavo and his nephew Takeoff dropped off the highly anticipated Only Built With Infinity Links studio album, and the talk of social media thus far are the lyrics on Messy, where it appears ‘unc’ makes several eyebrow-raising claims about his ex-girlfriend Saweetie.
Quavo lyrics on ‘Messy’: Was he referring to Saweetie?
Already, ahead of the duo’s album release, speculation was rife about the status quo of the Migos as a trio. Offset, it seems, has distanced himself from the group, pursuing a solo career with two singles dropped thus far in 2022.
Asked about the situation between the Migos in a recent interview on Revolt TV’s Big Facts podcast, Quavo made it clear, in no uncertain terms, that moving forward, Offset is no longer a ‘migo’, and the split has nothing to do with label quarrels.
“I just feel like we want to see our career as a duo, you know what I’m saying… We stand on real deal, real deal loyalty, and sometimes that sh*t ain’t displayed. This ain’t got nothing to do with no label, no paperwork, no QC, nothing. This got something to do with the three brothers. And sh*t, it is what it is. Right now, we gon’ be the duo ’til time tell,” Quavo said.
So, what exactly caused the split in the Migos? Well, fans are convinced Quavo’s verse on Messy drops enough hints to allow for presumptions to be made about how, perhaps, betrayal may have played a part.
On the song, Quavo raps:
I'm the Huncho, b****, I'm 'bout my cheddar (Quavo) Lil' h** keep goin' out sad, lil' b****, do better (B****) She want me to hit it, put my blicky on the dresser (Glockie) Feelin' brilliant just like Elon, pop the Tesla (Pop it, go) You ain't got motion, you can't stand up in my section (Get out) I said, "Caresha please" 'cause she too messy (Woo, please) B**** f*** my dawg behind my back, but I ain't stressin' (Not at all) You wanted the gang, you shoulda just said it, we would have blessed it (You shoulda just said it)
The two highlighted bars were the cause of internet-wide speculation around Saweetie and Offset. Of course, in no way did Quavo explicitly mention anything about both parties.
However, when you consider the part where he says, “I said, “Caresha please” ’cause she too messy (Woo, please)“, one could easily harken back to Saweetie’s appearance on the BET Hip-Hop Award-winning show, hosted by the City Girls’ Yung Miami, where she reflected on her relationship with Quavo and admitted that, at the time, she believed they’d spend the rest of their lives together.
“I was just enthralled by who he was as a human. Like, even if he wasn’t a rapper, like I would’ve still, like, been in love with him,” she said.
Miami tried probing further, but all Saweetie could reveal was their breakup was due to ‘irreconcilable’ differences.
Well, if the next highlighted bar is a hint by Quavo, then it’s safe to say that their split may have been due to a much greater infraction that cost not only their relationship but an entire legacy in Atlanta trap music.
Fans are convinced that the part where Quavo raps, “B**** f*** my dawg behind my back, but I ain’t stressin’ (Not at all),” is directed at Saweetie, and the ‘dawg’ in this scenario, could be Offset.
The Migos elder statesman left enough crumbs all over the song for social media sherlocks to digest. Here’s how the internet reacted to the lyrics:
