Limpopo’s celebrated singer, Makhadzi, has reportedly been a no-show at various shows where she was scheduled to perform, causing concern amongst her fans and event organisers.
Promoter comes after no-show Makhadzi
As reported by ZiMoja, Makhadzi was scheduled to perform at the Exclusive White Lifestyle gig at the Dries Niemandt Park in Kempton Park on Sunday, 30 April 2023, alongside other popular acts, including Somizi, Sjava, and DJ Fresh.
The organisers paid a deposit of R40 000 on 25 January 2023 to secure her services, and the remaining balance was settled on 22 April 2023, but Makhadzi still did not show up for the event.
Greg Hlatswayo, the promoter of the Exclusive White Lifestyle event claimed the singer was booked to perform at 22:00 as the closing act.
“Instead of rocking up on time, she sent a text asking for extra time. They gave her the extra time, but an hour later she sent another text saying she was two hours away,” he said.
By then, Hlatshwayo added, it was clear Makhadzi would not honour her appearance. The promoter later found out through the grapevine that, on the same day, Makhadzi was booked as a headliner at a gig held at the Polokwane cricket ground, alongside fellow Limpopo artist King Monada and DJ Oskido.
Hlatshwayo warned that despite her popularity, Makhadzi was racking up a bad reputation with promoters.
“Remember that Makhadzi was also late for the Metro FM Music Awards in Mbombela. She claimed to be stuck in traffic. At the rate she is going, she must just kiss her music career goodbye because music promoters are going to get gatvol. She thinks she is not irreplaceable. It’s only a matter of time before she sees her shows drying up,” he added
Makhadzi has yet to formally address Hlatshwayo’s claims. The Ghanama star was recently embroiled in a tug-of-war over her contract at Open Mic Productions.
The issue is still ongoing, with her new management team seeking advice from lawyers over the legality of the auto-renewal clause she signed.
