South African musician Makhadzi has cautioned promoters not to book her through her former record label, Open Mic Productions.
Makhadzi takes the fight to Open Mic Productions
The warning came via her Twitter account, where she posted her new booking details. The announcement came a week after she parted ways with the label, with which she had produced four studio albums.
“I signed with open mic only for three years. In this three years I dropped 4 albums . I have never recieved any cent of my sales . Some of my album reached platinum some gold . And a lot of hits songs that reached platinum and Gold . But I continue to work without complaining,” she tweeted.
Makhadzi, who recently faced accusations of failing to attend an event in Limpopo, insisted that she would not show up to any bookings made through Open Mic.
The label’s manager Brenden Maseko told TshisaLIVE that the singer was never booked for the event at Tzaneen, despite claims to the contrary.
“It’s a lie, they’ve never booked Makhadzi … ask them to send you an invoice from us or POP [proof of payment] they made to Open Mic or Makhadzi — there is no such thing,” he said.
The matter reportedly centred on a booking by businessman Jeffrey Malatji to perform at Ejays Lounge in Moime village outside Tzaneen on Saturday.
Malatji claimed that the songstress failed to attend because she had not been paid. Makhadzi’s statement warned promoters against booking her via the production company, adding:
“I don’t want to fight with promoters and my fans”.
The matter is yet to be resolved.
