Makhadzi sent her fans into a frenzy when, in a tweet, she confirmed her upcoming EP will be released under her independent stable.
Makhadzi confirms new EP, hints at indie label
The Ghanama star is preparing to release Auto Renewal EP under Makhadzi Entertainment, the first indication of victory in her fight against Open Mic Productions.
“After 15 years of hard work, I will be getting to know how much I make on sales for the first time in my life,” she tweeted.
Makhadzi and Open Mic have been at loggerheads over the state of her contract. Last week, the Milandu Bhe singer blasted her former label for blocking her releases, stealing her earnings and royalties and illegally tying her into a perpetual agreement.
Open Mic refuted Makhadzi’s claims, insisting she signed an ‘auto renewal’ agreement but it seems her new management, who received a copy of the singer’s signed contract earlier this week, may have worked her out of a rat trap and paved the way for her first independent release.
That’s, of course, if Godrich Gardee didn’t have anything to do with it. The former EFF secretary-general joined Makhadzi’s bandwagon and, in a tweet, offered his legal services in her spat with Open Mic.
“Hi Makhadzi, drop a DM for assistance in case you do not have any. We are here to fight your battles!” he said in a tweet.
Alas, Makhadzi, it seems, is in a better standing this week and, before long, her fans will be blessed with new music from the Limpopo queen.
“All thanks to everyone who was booking me all this years I was not gonna afford to live,” she tweeted.
Makhadzi has released five chart-topping albums since her debut in 2019. At the 2023 Metro FM Awards, she picked up Best Female, adding to her already impressive list of accolades.
