Jada Pinkett-Smith has called for healing following the controversy that came with her husband, Will Smith’s wild antics at the 2022 Oscars.
Jada Pinkett-Smith calls for ‘healing’
The Matrix actress took to social media a couple days after her hubby smacked the lights out of iconic comedian Chris Rock over an ill-timed joke he made about her balding, which she’d recently revealed was the consequence of alopecia, a condition which hair is lost from some or all areas of the body.
The entire ordeal was caught on footage and sent social media into a global frenzy.
Rock, some argue, may have not been aware of Pinkett-Smith’s condition and was purely poking fun at her hairstyle, completely unaware that it was tied to a medical condition she’d been struggling with in silence, until recently.
Smith, who picked up two Academy Awards for Best Actor and Best Picture on his star role in King Richard, issued a public apology to Rock, admitting his behaviour was “unacceptable and inexcusable.”
“Jokes at my expense are part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally,” he said.
Is Will Smith going to lose his Oscar wins?
Smith, who became only the fifth black film star to win the Best Actor category at the Academy Awards may be barred from the ceremony and, much worse, he could be stripped of his honours for his outlandish behaviour.
This follows a statement released by The Academy noting that it has since launched a formal review of the incident and “explore further action and consequences in accordance with our By-laws, Standards of Conduct and California law.”
Whoopi Goldberg from The View, who is an Academy Governor in the Actors branch, revealed on her show that, in all likelihood, Smith would not be stripped of his wins, but that “there will be some consequences.”
As things stand, Rock has not released a public statement on the events that transpired at the 2022 Oscars.
