Watch: Chris Rock takes swipes at Will Smith
Until Sunday, 5 March 2023, the world had waited over a year to get a public reaction out of Rock, who was slapped by the actor at the 2022 Oscars, a moment he described as “the greatest night in the history of television.”
Sure, figures close to the comedian, as well as fans who attended his shows after that embarrassing evening, had heard tidbits of Rock’s true feelings about Smith at the time.
However, toward the end of his Netflix special, the streaming service’s first-ever live-streamed event, Chris Rock gave it all up and delivered a scathing response to the infamous Oscars slap, categorically disregarding Smith’s threats about keeping his wife’s name out of his mouth.
“Will Smith practices selective outrage, ’cause everybody that really knows, knows I had nothing to do with that s***! I didn’t have any ‘entanglements’!” Rock quipped.
Here are some of the things Chris Rock said about Will Smith, Jada Pinkett-Smith and the 2022 Oscars’ slap:

As reported by Reuters, Rock became the first act to live stream a comedy special on Netflix, as part of a $40 million deal inked in 2016.
The special going viral on social media was his second from the deal, insiders with knowledge of Rock’s business relationship with Netflix revealed.
Smith, who recently made headlines for starring in the slave movie ‘Emancipation‘, publicly apologised to Rock a day after the infamous Oscars moment.
“I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness,” the actor wrote at the time.
Smith has since been banned from the Oscars for 10 years. He and his wife, Pinkett-Smith, had not reacted to Rock’s standup special at the time this article was published.
Chris Rock’s Selective Outrage is now available to stream on Netflix.
