Pinkett-Smith’s media tour for her new book ‘Worthy,’ has been muddied with controversies over her comments about her marriage status to Will Smith, and, of course, unsolicited tales about her and Tupac.
In a recent interview with RollingOut, the 52-year-old reminisced about her unique relationship with Tupac, expressing a deep spiritual connection.
“If there is such a thing as past lives, I definitely think that Pac and I have travelled a few together,” she shared, touching on the question of why their relationship never blossomed into a romantic one.
Their bond, she explains, transcended conventional relationships, embodying a “friendship-love chemistry” rather than romantic chemistry.
Pinkett-Smith believes that their relationship had a divine purpose, which was not aimed at romantic involvement.
“It was like God made us that way,” she said.

Their friendship was characterised by a deep understanding and a sense of companionship that remained unparalleled.
This sentimental memento was further delved into during an upcoming segment on Showtime‘s ‘All the Smoke’ podcast.
Pinkett-Smith disclosed that Tupac had proposed marriage to her while he was in Rikers Island jail, a proposal rooted in his desire for a solid support system during those turbulent times.
Although she was ready to stand by him, marriage wasn’t a requisite for that support. The proposal, as she sees it, was Tupac’s way of seeking a stable foundation amidst the chaos engulfing his life at that moment.
“I knew at that time that A. He needed somebody to do time with him, which I was going to do anyway. You don’t have to marry me to do time, right? I’m here. And then B. He needed a rock. He needed – because of our friendship and because of everything we have been through together, he just wanted to feel that solidified foundation. Because I promise you, he would have married me and divorced me as soon as his ass left,” she revealed.
The actress, who later married Will Smith in 1997, has always been open about her life experiences.
The marriage to Will Smith, which has lasted over two decades, had its own share of ups and downs, as revealed in a recent interview on The Today Show where Pinkett-Smith shared that they were separated for seven years.
“We’re still figuring it out. We’ve been doing some really heavy-duty work together. We just got deep love for each other and we are going to figure out what that looks like for us,” Pinkett-Smith said.
