Nevada police have arrested Duane ‘Keefe D’ Davis, a figure connected to the unsolved murder of rap icon Tupac Shakur, which occurred on the Las Vegas Strip in 1996.
What charges does Duane ‘Keefe’ Davis face in Tupac Shakur murder case?
While specific charges have not been immediately disclosed, Davis’s detention marks a significant breakthrough in a case that has long perplexed investigators.
Davis, a name known to investigators for some time, has openly acknowledged his presence in the Cadillac with Tupac’s shooter in interviews and in his 2019 memoir, Compton Street Legend.
His arrest is the first direct connection to the murder case.
The arrest follows a search warrant execution in Henderson, Nevada, conducted in July 2023 as part of the ongoing investigation.
The property under investigation belongs to Davis’s wife. It is important to note that the Las Vegas police have cited challenges in the case, stemming from a lack of cooperation from witnesses.
However, independent investigations have uncovered substantial information beyond what has been officially disclosed.
Did Davis have anything to do with Tupac’s murder?
The incident leading to Tupac Shakur’s murder dates back to May 1996 when Orlando ‘Baby Lane’ Anderson allegedly assaulted Travon ‘Tray’ Lane, an associate of Death Row Records boss Suge Knight, at a shoe store.
On 7 September of the same year, following a boxing match between Mike Tyson and Bruce Seldon at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Tray Lane informed Shakur of Anderson’s presence in the hotel lobby.
Shakur subsequently initiated an assault on Anderson, an incident captured by security cameras.
Afterwards, Shakur returned to his hotel room at the Luxor before departing with Suge Knight for Club 662, where he was set to perform at a charity event.
En route to the club, a white Cadillac pulled alongside Shakur’s car. The assailant in the Cadillac fired a .40 S&W Glock 22, striking Shakur four times.
Despite medical efforts, Shakur succumbed to his injuries six days later after complications arose from the removal of his right lung.
Who is Duane ‘Keefe D’ Davis? – Here’s everything we know
Duane Keith ‘Keefe D’ Davis, born on 14 June 1963, is associated with the California-based gang, The South Side Compton Crips.
Davis, a childhood friend of N.W.A. frontman Eazy-E, has been linked to Tupac Shakur’s murder.
He has asserted that Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs placed a $1 million hit on Tupac and Suge Knight in 1996, leading to Tupac’s fatal shooting.
Detective Tim Brennan from Compton, California, filed an affidavit naming Davis and his nephew Orlando Anderson as suspects in the murder.
Anderson was involved in a gang-related shootout in 1998 and subsequently killed.
However, the investigation had initially discounted Anderson as a suspect, citing the timing of the fight between Shakur and Anderson just hours before the shooting.
In October 2011, former LAPD Detective Greg Kading alleged in a book that Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs commissioned Duane Keith ‘Keefe D’ Davis to kill Tupac Shakur and Suge Knight for $1 million.
Kading and Davis claimed that Anderson was present in the vehicle that approached Tupac’s BMW on the night of the shooting.
Davis’s recent arrest in September 2023 represents a significant development in the long-standing investigation into the murder of Tupac Shakur.
