Following their previous joint effort, Future and Metro Boomin have again collaborated to release We Still Don’t Trust You, a robust 25-track album that delivers a series of surprises that caught fans off guard.
Five shockers from ‘We Still Don’t Trust You Album’
Unexpected Number of Tracks
Initially, the tracklist revealed to social media indicated that the album would feature 18 tracks. However, upon its release, the album contained a whopping 25 tracks spread over two discs.
This last-minute addition of seven tracks added to the album’s diversity and depth, offering fans more than they anticipated.
J. Cole surfaces on ‘Red Leather’
One of the main takeaways from the sequel was the surprise appearance of J. Cole. The Fayetteville rapper sent the internet into an uproar earlier this week when at the height of his Dreamville Festival set, tendered an apology to Kendrick Lamar after dissing him on 7-Minute Drill, the last-minute entry on his unofficial album, Might Delete Later.
What qualifies this as a shocker is the uncomfortable position Cole finds himself in, in the modern rap cold war. His budding bromance with Drake culminated in a US tour following a series of collaborations, of which, First Person Shooter was the last straw for Kendrick Lamar. who unleashed a wrath against the duo on Like That.
ASAP Rocky chimes in on the Drake onslaught
One of the more eyebrow-raising elements of the album was ASAP Rocky‘s unannounced appearance on Show of Hands.
In this song, Rocky reignites tensions with Drake by suggesting he had relations with his baby’s mother, former pornstar Sophie Brussaux before she birthed their son, Adonis, whose botched Adidas unveiling can be credited to Pusha-T’s career-denting diss, The Story of Adidon.
“N****s in they feelings over women, what, you hurt or something?
I smash before you birthed, son, Flacko hit it first, son
Still don’t trust you, it’s always us, never them
Heard you dropped your latest s**t
Funny how it just came and went”
The Weeknd finally airs grievances about OVO situation
The Weeknd in All to Myself also appears to address Drake, suggesting he dodged a bullet by not inking a deal with OVO.
“They could never diss my brothers, baby
When they got leaks in they operation
I thank God that I never signed my life away
And we never do the big talk (No, no, no, no, no)
They shooters making TikToks
Got us laughin’ in the Lambo'”
R&B Heavy Influence
Departing slightly from their previous album, We Still Don’t Trust You leans heavily into R&B, setting a different tone and pace compared to the first collab.
This genre shift has allowed for a broader exploration of themes and musical styles, showcasing Future’s and Metro Boomin’s versatility as artists.
