How many lives does a Doja Cat have? Apparently none, according to social media.
Why is the internet mad at Doja Cat?
After a disastrous weekend, one which may have spelt an end to her budding music career, the 24-year-old thought it’d be a great idea to issue a public apology to her fans for the epic disappointment.
You see, it turns out that at some point in her past life — before the fame and fortune — Doja Cat was drawn to a certain segment of the United States’ polarising population.
You guessed it, footage of the young rapstress appeasing a group of alleged right-wing extremists surfaced on social media, along with tweets about her apparent hatred of her black origins.
Doja Cat is racially ambiguous. Her black paternal family is from South Africa but for as long as she can remember, she has only known her white maternal family.
Doja Cat apologises to the black community
This could explain a lot but it still didn’t warrant any of the things we witnessed. Even Doja Cat herself agrees. In a statement posted on Instagram, the rapstress asserted that she identifies as a black woman, more than anything.
“I’ve used public chat rooms to socialise since I was a child. I shouldn’t have been on some of those chat room sites but I personally have never been involved in any racist conversations. I’m sorry to everyone that I offended,” she wrote.

Suffice it to say, her efforts were recognised but that’s about aa far as it went. Generally, the public did not bite the bullet. Social media came tumbling with memes of disregard for the apology.
Social media backlash that followed the apology
Some empathised with her but could not easily look past her conscious decisions, while others downright discarded the letter as a half-ass attempt at recognising her wrongs.
