2024 Academy Awards: What to expect at this year’s Oscars
This year’s Oscars have a lineup that’s as diverse and exciting as ever. Let’s dive right in and check out who’s in the running for the golden statuette.
Leading the charge is Oppenheimer with a whopping 13 nominations, closely followed by Poor Things, Killers of the Flower Moon, and, surprise, Barbie.
Yes, you read that right! Barbie is making a splash at this year’s awards season.
In the Best Actor category, we’ve got Bradley Cooper for Maestro, Colman Domingo in Rustin, Paul Giamatti for The Holdovers, Cillian Murphy in Oppenheimer, and Jeffrey Wright for American Fiction. It’s a tough call with such talent in the mix.
Best Actress sees Annette Bening for Nyad, Lily Gladstone in Killers of the Flower Moon, Sandra Hüller for Anatomy of a Fall, Carey Mulligan in Maestro, and Emma Stone in Poor Things vying for the award.
Supporting roles are just as competitive. The gentlemen in the Best Supporting Actor category include Sterling K. Brown in American Fiction, Robert De Niro for Killers of the Flower Moon, Robert Downey Jr. in Oppenheimer, Ryan Gosling for Barbie, and Mark Ruffalo in Poor Things.
The Best Supporting Actress category sees Emily Blunt in Oppenheimer, Danielle Brooks for The Color Purple, America Ferrera in Barbie, Jodie Foster for Nyad, and Da’Vine Joy Randolph in The Holdovers.
For Best Director, we’ve got Justine Triet for Anatomy of a Fall, Martin Scorsese with Killers of the Flower Moon, Christopher Nolan for Oppenheimer, Yorgos Lanthimos in Poor Things, and Jonathan Glazer with The Zone of Interest.
Best Animated Feature Film nominees include The Boy and the Heron, Elemental, Nimona, Robot Dreams, and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
