Investigations into the brutal murder of Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes are still ongoing, as detectives continue to look for clues in the rapper’s final 24 hours.
AKA murder: Documenting Supermega’s last moments
The Prada rapper was gunned down in cold blood, along with his former manager and close friend Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane, outside Wish, a popular restaurant situated on Florida Road, Durban’s go-to nightlife strip, on the evening of Friday, 10 February 2023.
CCTV footage that captured the gory double murder mysteriously leaked on social media, showing the first images of the two gunmen responsible for what many believe was a coordinated hit.
A lot has happened since reports of the shooting were made to the Durban police shortly after 22:00 that fateful evening.
AKA’s girlfriend, Nadia Nakai completely dropped off from social media after learning about the murder at a Sandton nightclub she was performing at that Friday night.

Former nemesis, Cassper Nyovest, AKA’s baby momma DJ Zinhle, whom he shared seven-year-old daughter Kairo with, and many of his close friends and peers shared heartfelt tributes in reaction to the shocking nature of his passing.
Nota Baloyi, a troubled culture pundit whose loose mouth has landed him on the receiving end of an R200 000 defamation lawsuit filed by DJ Shimza not so long ago, drew ire from social media with his wild conspiracy theories about possible culpability of the Mass Country rapper’s friends in his murder plot.
While police investigations continue in Durban, with no fresh leads four days after the murder, a legal representative of the Forbes family, Rudolf Baloyi, confirmed that AKA’s body has since been returned to Johannesburg for funeral preparations.
After observing the leaked CCTV footage and conducting interviews with detectives, Baloyi vehemently stressed that AKA’s murder was most likely premeditated.
“You can tell just by looking at the video that this was intended for him it was not a robbery they didn’t attempt to take anything,” he said.
The Forbes lawyer also pleaded with the public to refrain from sharing the leaked surveillance footage, which captured the gory moment AKA was shot in the back of the head.
“You can imagine the parents having to see such a video of their son taken out like that at that moment he was most happy, he didn’t even get to see this person.
“For him, he was just in the moment saying goodbye to Tibs for the night and someone comes and shoots him from the back. So it’s extremely painful, it’s an image that will stay with the family for very long,” he said.
