Missing Janae Kalia-Henry is found: Here’s what we know
According to Fox29, an amber alert was issued after Kalia-Henry was kidnapped in the area of Schuylkill Avenue in Reading City. The girl had been abducted from her home at about 02:00 on Wednesday, 31 August 2022. The kidnapper put Henry into a silver Chevrolet Traverse with an unknown Pennsylvania registration.
Police say the man who took her travelled to New York City.
The girl was found 15 hours after her disappearance wearing no shoes on Glenmore Avenue in Brooklyn, New York. It was not immediately known if she had suffered any injuries.
Officials spoke out on Wednesday evening about the alert that was issued but cancelled as soon as Henry was found.
“It was just some investigative leads that we developed, that we were following, that got us to that location,” said Reading Police Chief Richard Tornielli.
A male suspect, identified by police as 47-year-old Dwayne Taylor, was taken into custody in New York City.
He is facing charges of kidnapping, burglary, aggravated assault, and other related offences.
The police launched an investigation into Kalia-Henry’s abduction. Police were investigating Taylor’s motive and exactly how he knew the girl. However, they acknowledged some connections between Kalia-Henry and Taylor.
“We believe this individual was kidnapped by someone that she may have known or had known her. The neighborhood is safe. There is no danger to the public,” said Tornielli.
Kalia-Henry has since been returned safely to her loved ones.
