Renowned actor Jonathan Majors has taken legal action by filing a counter-domestic complaint against his former partner, Grace Jabbari, ahead of his much-anticipated trial.
Jonathan Majors counter-domestic complaint: Here’s everything we know
In this turn of events, Majors claims that he was subjected to physical harm, with accusations of scratching and hitting, during an argument that took place in March 2023. The altercation resulted in Majors himself being charged with assault and harassment.
Following the recent submission of Majors’ complaint on Tuesday, 22 June 2023, the New York Police Department (NYPD) has issued an investigation card, known as an I-card, which grants officers the authority to arrest Jabbari, a professional dancer aged 30, on charges of assault, per New York Post.
Sources close to the matter have confirmed the NYPD’s active pursuit of Jabbari, thereby bolstering the argument put forth by Majors’ legal representation, led by attorney Priya Chaudhry.
Chaudhry firmly asserts that Majors, known for his role in “Creed III” and the Marvel franchise, is the true victim in their tumultuous relationship.
Chaudhry expressed confidence in Majors’ innocence, emphasising that the actor had recently presented compelling evidence to the NYPD regarding the events that transpired on a fateful night.
Following a thorough examination of this evidence, the NYPD swiftly established probable cause to arrest Jabbari for allegedly assaulting Jonathan Majors.
While an NYPD spokesperson refrained from commenting further on the matter, stating that the investigation was still ongoing, they confirmed that no additional arrests had been made.
Jonathan Majors trial: Here’s is Grace Jabbari’s version of events
Last week, Majors appeared in a Manhattan court for a hearing on the case, accompanied by his new partner, Meagan Good, and clutching a Bible in one hand.
The trial is scheduled to commence on 3 August 2023, where Majors will face the charges of assault and harassment.
Majors, 33, was apprehended by police three months ago in his Chelsea apartment located near West 22nd Street and Eighth Avenue in Manhattan, following a reported 911 call.
Subsequent investigations revealed that an altercation had occurred between Majors and Jabbari, resulting in minor injuries sustained by Jabbari on her head and neck.
Majors was initially arraigned on multiple counts, including third-degree assault, third-degree attempted assault, and harassment. However, the strangulation charge has since been dropped, and he currently faces misdemeanour charges of assault and harassment.
Chaudhry has consistently denied the allegations against her client, Majors.
Legal documents obtained by sources shed light on the defence’s argument, citing the testimony of a cab driver who claims to have witnessed the incident.
According to the driver, Jabbari purportedly launched an attack on Majors on 25 March 2023, while she was attempting to seize his phone during their journey home from a Brooklyn bar.
The driver allegedly observed a woman physically assaulting and scratching Majors, leading him to stop the car so that Majors could exit the vehicle. Chaudhry argues that this account refutes any claims of Majors inflicting harm or raising his voice during the incident.
As the case progresses, Majors’ legal team remains steadfast in their belief in his innocence, asserting that irrefutable evidence has been provided to the district attorney, and expressing confidence in his ultimate exoneration.
