The 1996 CAP Champions League titleholder lost his life after months of receiving specialist medical care for an undisclosed illness.
In a statement to City Press, Moeti’s family explained, without revealing too much about the official cause of death, that the retired Bafana Bafana star “suddenly took ill eight months ago.”
“John succumbed to his illness in the early hours of this morning (6 February) at home, surrounded by his family and brethren in prayer. We thank you sincerely for your prayers and steadfast support,” the family noted.
Details on the funeral and memorial service of the late John Moeti have yet to be released. The family, in its statement, made it clear that, at this time, it’s still processing the untimely death of the ex-footballer and more information on his burial and celebration of life will be communicated in due time.
“The family wishes to be afforded privacy during this time of loss, and funeral details will be advised in due course,” the statement concluded.
