You can manage two-step verification settings in your WhatsApp account by adding a pin and linking it to your email address. Although you have the option to skip adding an email, it is important to add it to safeguard your account. You can also disable the two-step verification any time you want.
How to enable a Two-step Verification to secure your WhatsApp account
To enable the two-step verification feature, you have to:
- Open WhatsApp Settings.
- Tap Account > Two-step verification > Enable.
- Enter a six-digit PIN of your choice and confirm it.
- Provide an email address you can access or tap Skip if you don’t want to add an email address.
- Tap Next.
- Confirm the email address and tap Save or Done.
What happens if you don’t add an email address?
WhatsApp highly recommends that you add an email address to safeguard your account. However, some people might not want to add it for whatever reasons. Well, you can skip that part if you are one of those people.
However, not adding your email address comes with a little bit of challenge. It is difficult to set a new PIN if forget it when you haven’t added an email address. In fact, you will have to wait 7 days before you can reset your PIN.
You can also always disable the feature by:
- Opening WhatsApp Settings.
- Tapping Account > Two-step verification >Disable > Disable.
To change Two-step verification PIN you can:
- Open WhatsApp Settings.
- Tap Account > Two-step verification > Change PIN.
To add an email address:
- Open WhatsApp Settings.
- Tap Account > Two-step verification > tap Add Email Address.
And to change it you can:
- Open WhatsApp Settings.
- Tap Account > Two-step verification > tap Change Email Address.
To make sure that you remember your PIN, WhatsApp will remind you a couple of times after you have enabled the two-step verification.
