Video gaming is one of the most popular activities of the 21st century and people of all ages use one or more gaming devices in order to play their favourite titles and embark on different types of adventures.
Some like to play action games, others like games of chance, many enjoy playing puzzle games, and some like e-sports.
Every person is different, and because of that, gaming studios release multiple titles of different genres.
Many studios have become popular because they specialise in specific genres, and on most occasions, their games become best sellers. However, there are times when even popular franchises are met with less enthusiasm.
Square Enix – The Studio that Introduced Final Fantasy to the World
Square has made billions by expanding the Final Fantasy franchise, as most players tend to purchase a copy of an FF title even before the game launches. Nevertheless, all Final Fantasy titles are not destined for success.
The discontinuation of Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier was a big hit for the reputation of Square Enix, as the game did not manage to meet the expectations of the gamers and of the studio.
This is not the first time Square experiences such a failure as there have also been core FF titles that were received poorly by the fans of the franchise.
Many are wondering how Square managed to get things wrong with The First Soldier, as the game ticked all the boxes before it went live. After all, the world of Final Fantasy is a kind of Japanese “neo-mythology” and most players enjoy playing games that are based in such fiction.
On most occasions, studios cannot go wrong with mythology, regardless if one is talking about console games or slot games such as Age of Gods, where every spin of the reels is a journey to a time when Ancient Greece was all about the twelve gods of the Olympus. Just like Age of Gods, mythology-based games rank really high in the gaming review ratings.
Can Square Recover from the First Soldier Failure?
In all honesty, nobody at Square will think twice about The First Soldier when FF7 Remake gets its next expansion.
The fans of Final Fantasy 7 will run to their retailer or to the gaming library of their gaming system and they will pay as much as they will need to pay in order to get their copy.
A very good example of a FF7 Remake expansion is Yuffie’s story, which did not even offer five hours of gameplay, but thousands of players spent a lot in order to purchase it. Just imagine how well Rebirth will do when it gets released.
After all, we are talking about a full game, no matter if it is only Part 2 of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake project.
Can Final Fantasy 16 Compete with Final Fantasy 7 Remake?
Square’s development team is putting in countless hours in order to keep up with the development requirements of the studio’s multiple ongoing projects. From Star Ocean to Final Fantasy 7 and from NieR Automata to Octopath Traveler, Square’s engines are working at full capacity.
Nevertheless, the biggest project after Final Fantasy 7 Remake is no other than Final Fantasy 16; the title that will actually expand the main branch of the FF franchise. FF16 has to exceed expectations and to do better than its predecessors.
It is not a game like FF7 Remake where players purchase a copy purely out of nostalgia. It is a game that will pave the future for the entire FF franchise.
