Peter Matsimbe’s alleged checkered past crept up on him when details of a 2019 luxury car scam resurfaced in headlines on Sunday.
How Peter Matsimbe was linked to a luxury car scam
In an explosive City Press report, the baby daddy of South African model and host Ayanda Thabethe was exposed as a possible fugitive of the law, after court documents from a 2019 case pursued by Standard Bank turned up in the hands of celebrity journalists.
According to reports, the new-money flasher represented a company, Matsimbe and Co, in a forfeiture application filed by the bank in an attempt to recoup 10 luxury vehicles fraudulently secured by the business.
The company’s fleet included:
- a Toyota Hilux;
- Toyota Land Cruiser;
- Lexus SUV, Lexus LX;
- Mclaren MP4 coupé;
- BMW X5 SUV;
- Can-Am Maverick;
- Audi Q3;
- a Nissan Navara; and
- a Volvo.
A deep dive into Matsimbe and Co’s papers turned up several interesting facts. The company, based on information stored by the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC), is more likely a shell, registered for the sole purpose of forging compliance.
According to our research, Matsimbe and Co was registered in 2013 with an individual named Sisekelo Takhele Malinga listed as a sole director.
The company missed its annual returns for two years before surfacing to pay the penalty in November 2015. Annual returns for the next two years were only filed in 2018, and by then Malinga had been replaced by an individual named Mosa Montisentsi, and the business address as operating from 4A Briggs Lane, a residential community situated in Bedfordview, Gauteng.
As things stand, Matsimbe and Co has been non-compliant in annual returns since 2018 and the company underwent another change, with a man named Nkosinathi Magongo listed as the sole director.
According to reports, Standard Bank’s forfeiture application was granted and thus far, only two vehicles have been recouped.
Coincidentally, the director details listed on Matsimbe and Co papers make no mention of a Peter, suggesting that, more than likely, Ayanda Thabethe’s baby daddy could be renowned by his pseudonym.
Another interesting fact from our research suggests Matsimbe and Co may have been registered by a foreign national who used a passport number to file with CIPC.
Thabethe, who mothers a boy with Matsimbe, has remained mum about her baby daddy’s alleged skeletons. The couple first made headlines in June 2022, when celebrity gossipers blasted her as a homewrecker.
The Celebrity Game Night host and her man quelled speculation that she had allegedly stolen a woman’s husband with threats of legal action from their attorneys.
“Despite this fact, Ms Thabethe and PM have found themselves to be trending topics that are hateful, heinous and defamatory. The said rumours have stained Ms Thabethe’s reputation and the brand she has worked very hard to build.
“Action will be taken against the perpetrators and we again encourage you to refrain from spreading false information,” Thabethe’s lawyers warned.
Rumours are rampant about Thabethe’s second pregnancy but these remain without valid sources.
