On Sunday, 21 April 2024, residents of Randburg and adjacent areas experienced significant power outages.
What caused Randburg power outage?
The power outage in Randburg was triggered when the Hummer Switching Station tripped late on Saturday night.
The incident primarily affected areas including Sonneglans, Northwold, Strijdompark, and Bromhof.
In a statement, City Power revealed that emergency teams were dispatched to the site early Sunday morning; however, they faced difficulties in accessing the site, which impeded immediate restoration efforts and investigative processes.
The specific cause of the trip has yet to be determined as on-site challenges have delayed further examination.
Other areas affected by power outage on Sunday, 21 April 2024
The power issues extended beyond Randburg on the same day, impacting various other localities.
In Lenasia, the Nancefield Substation experienced a malfunction that affected Kliptown and its surrounding areas. Technicians are investigating to pinpoint the exact cause of the outage.
Similarly, in Bramley, a burnt circuit breaker at the junction of 38 High Road and Linen Road resulted in a power cut. The repair process for this area is on hold until a new mini-substation is delivered and installed.
Furthermore, the City Power Alexandra Service Delivery Centre reported receiving 164 calls related to outages, with 13 complaints indicating a power loss exceeding 24 hours.
Residents in these affected areas are advised to switch off non-essential appliances to prevent any in-rush current incidents and reduce strain on the network once power is restored.
