Details around the tragedy that befell DJ Sumbody were still sketchy at the time this article was published. However. according to Sunday World, the renowned turntable jockey and restauranteur was shot and killed in Johannesburg in the wee hours of Sunday, 20 November 2022.
From what we understand, the popular DJ was driving along Woodmead Drive in Sandton when out of the blue, his vehicle was struck by a hail of bullets.
According to law enforcement officials who’ve spoken on the incident in anonymity, DJ Sumbody and one of his two bodyguards died instantly, while a third occupant, presumably his other security guard, was still alive when emergency medics responded to the scene.
The surviving victim of the ambush was rushed to a nearby medical facility for life-saving treatment and it’s presumed he was still alive at the time this article was published.
DJ Sumbody’s family also confirmed the incident in a short statement released by his management.
“The Sefoka family and Sumsounds Music Management have kindly requested privacy during this difficult time and will release a statement in due course,” the statement read.
DJ Sumbody’s murder investigation is being handled by the Sandton police, it’s understood, and this early into the tragedy, the suspects responsible for his death are presumably still at large and considered armed and dangerous.

Oupa ‘DJ Sumbody’ Sefoka was a Pretoria native, born in the 1980s. An exact date of birth could not be verified but according to various reports, the producer may have celebrated his birthday on 9 June.
While DJ Sumbody was considered in many barber shop debates as the pioneer of Amapiano, a claim that’s been challenged by the likes of DJ Maphorisa and Makwa, the impact of his first single release Ayepyep, featuring DJ Tira, Thebe and Emza, was undeniable.
