Nicki Minaj is a natural on-screen talent and on Thursday evening, she surprised fans when she took over The Late Late Show with James Corden.
Nicki Minaj on James Corden show: Here’s what she said
The 39-year-old recently resurfaced on the throne of music with the release of her brand new single Do We Have A Problem? featuring Lil Baby. The music video, alone, suggests quite a bit about the direction she is aiming towards in her entertainment career.
Speaking to Corden, Nicki delved deeper into a number of interesting topics and, of course, never forgetting to drop hints and ‘Easter eggs’ here and there.
She still gets nervous on ‘release day’
More than a decade into her budding music career, Nicki admitted to Corden that she still gets butterflies in her stomach whenever she releases new music.
“I get nervous every single time because, you want the people to like what you do. You know? We wouldn’t be doing it if approval from my fans… So, yes, you have to wait until it comes out to see if they love it. So, yes, I still get nervous,” she said.
Acting could be her next industry move
Minaj has a formal education in performance arts and on her new single, the Anaconda star delves deeper into this aspect of her artistry. Speaking to Corden, Nicki revealed that for Do We Have A Problem? she made the conscious choice to stick to what she’s good at and not fall into the pressure of selling sex appeal when, in fact, her strongest suite lies in her uncanny acting abilities.
“Before I was famous, I went to school and studied acting. So, I was like ‘you know what, why don’t I bring something that I love to do to my music video?’ which is acting,” she said.
In her new music video, Nicki plays the role of a double agent, who uses her position in law enforcement to pull off a brazen heist with her partner, Lil Baby. The music video features performances by Joseph Sikora and Cory Hardict.
The Queen also teased the possibility of starring in a movie produced by Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson but, for now, talks are ongoing and nothing is concrete, she said.
