Monique Muller is forging ahead in her new chapter as a single mother but, the remnants of her toxic past with ex Katlego Maboe still have a hold on her.
Monique Muller reveals legal cost in seeking justice against Katlego Maboe
Speaking to Tshisa Live, Muller slammed Maboe’s PR team for reframing the narrative of the former couple’s court case which, earlier this week, was dismissed after his legal team raised a point in limine (legal jargon that simply means a technical issue — usually relates to matters of jurisdiction — was brought up before the court got into the merits of the case).
In his media statement, Maboe indicated that he’d been exonerated by the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on the protection order application as well as the domestic violence charge.
However, Muller claims the court ruling was twisted to make it seem as if Maboe was absolved from accusations of physical and emotional abuse.
“This must be made clear. He was not found innocent of anything. Nowhere does it say he was found innocent or exonerated,” she said.
More than anything, the court dismissed the interim protection order application after observing that Maboe had not exhibited threatening behaviour since 2020.
For Muller, the two-year delay worked to Maboe’s advantage . He had three lawyers arguing against her accusations. She, on the other hand, racked up a R1 million legal bill and at some point, her pursuit of justice became way above her pay grade.
“There are so many loopholes in the system that allow abusers to do what Katlego and his team have done to me, like, for example, to have this case dragged for two years. To the point where my bills were more than R1m. They exhausted me financially and emotionally,” she told the cited publication.
Maboe still has pending defamation cases with Muller’s brother, Seth, and Women for Change founder Sabrina Walter, who is accused of making defamatory statements against Maboe “which led to his removal as a SAFTA nominee in the category of Best TV Presenter.”
