Social media is abuzz on Thursday and in a noisy corner, Katlego Maboe is a hot subject of debate.
2021 SAFTAs centred in controversy over Katlego Maboe
On Thursday, the South African Film and TV Awards (2021 SAFTAs) announced its complete nominations list with more than 50 categories in contention.
Of particular interest to many were nominees listed in the Best TV Presenter category. Maboe, whose cancellation was a public affair, was in the running and those who still breathe from the wounds suffered by Monique Muller were perturbed by this.
The former Express Show co-host is up for the contentious category for his work on the reality TV competition Tropika Island of Treasure Curacao. It will be a tough outing for the 34-year-old since Devi Sankeree Govender (The Devi Show), Palesa Tembe (Afternoon Express) and Dineo Ranaka (Yimlo) are just some of the favourites capable of snatching the SAFTA.
Alas, his inclusion was still a mind-boggler for many. Maboe’s hive, however, has not stood silent in the attacks levelled against him. A new campaign has risen to see the former OUTSurance ambassador win the category. Although, nowhere is it stated that the Best TV Presenter category is open for fan votes.

I don’t condone what Katlego Maboe did to his wife at all. But I want him to win a SAFTA because he is an incredible presenter or he is good at what he does. Or maybe he is cancelled for life by people and I’m wrong for saying this. But I love his work
