Metro Boomin sells portion of music catalogue: Here’s what we know
The Atlanta producer, whose recent project Heroes and Villains debuted at number one on Billboard‘s US Top 200 albums chart with 185 000 units sold in the first week, is said to have sold off his rights to a portion of his music catalogue, which includes records like Not All Heroes Wear Capes (2018) and his 2014 debut, 19 & Boomin.
According to insiders who tipped Billboard with information on the deal, Shamrock Capital, founded in 1978 by senior executive Roy E Disney, has secured a portion of Metro Boomin’s publishing rights, albeit all parties involved have yet to provide more details on the acquisition.
While Boomin, real name Leland Tyler Wayne, only has two studio albums in his artist discography, as a producer, the 29-year-old commands a lucrative catalogue as a producer.
Some of Metro Boomin-produced hits that shaped the sound of Hip-Hop include:
- Bad and Boujee – Migos featuring Lil Uzi Vert
- Mask Off – Future
- Congratulations – Post Malone
- Bank Account – 21 Savage
- Father Stretch My Hands, Pt 1 – Kanye West
- Jumpman – Drake and Future
- Heartless – The Weeknd
- Waves – Kanye West
- Child’s Play – Drake
- Tuesday – iLoveMakonnen
Metro Boomin is the latest artist to trade his music catalogue. Iggy Azealia made headlines in November 2022 when she sold a portion of her master recording and publishing catalogue in an eight-figure deal.
“I sold a portion of my catalogue to who I wanted, for an amount that means I don’t have to work another day in my life. (sic)” she tweeted at the time.
Future, a longtime Metro Boomin collaborator, also sold off a portion of his publishing catalogue in a deal valued at $75 million. According to Billboard, the sale to Influence Media Partner encompassed the Atlanta icon’s publishing rights to a total of 612 songs recorded between 2004 and 2020.
