South African songstress Kelly Khumalo had social media in an uproar on Monday evening after the comments she made about her former lover and ex-Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa.
Kelly Khumalo interview goes south when she says this about Senzo Meyiwa
Khumalo, who is on a promo run for the third instalment of her upcoming reality TV show, Life with Kelly Khumalo, which returns to Showmax on Tuesday, attended her premiere on Saturday, 2 July 2022, in Rosebank.
There, she sat down for an exclusive interview with eNCA‘s Silindile Masikane, in the presence of her attorney, Magdalene Moonsamy, where, for the first time, she addressed the recent developments around the Meyiwa murder trial.
Careful not to utter anything that may incriminate her since, after all, there is a docket that exists where she is listed as one of seven suspects accused of murdering the former Bafana Bafana star, Khumalo urged the public to watch her show for detailed information on the people she believes are out to get her.
This line of defence, Khumalo maintains throughout her interview, where she vehemently calls for the justice system to offer her closure in a murder case that’s dragged on for eight years. However, a couple of interesting things happened when Masikane dug deeper into her relationship with Meyiwa.
Her reaction to Meyiwa’s extramarital affairs
Masikane questioned Khumalo about her decision to nurture a relationship with her after she had discovered that he was in an active marriage with Mandisa Meyiwa, and quite frankly, the Voice of Africa songstress made it abundantly clear that “he dropped his relationship to be with me.”
Her relationship with the Meyiwa family
Khumalo shares a daughter with the late goalkeeper, eight-year0ld Tingo, and when asked if she has an active relationship with her paternal family, Khumalo said:
“I would leave that question to my attorney because I simply feel that there’s a lot of legalities that are in place, and I’ll leave that to Magdalene.”
Her view on Meyiwa’s celebrity before they were an item
This part of the interview, where Khumalo responded to questions about the active social media campaign to cancel her, sparked outrage as soon as the songstress made this damning utterance:
“First of all, I was Kelly Khumalo before Senzo Meyiwa. I did not know who Senzo Meyiwa was until a friend of mine, Lucia Mthiyane, explained to me who he was. Nobody knew who Senzo Meyiwa was until he was attached to the brand Kelly Khumalo. I have nothing to gain. I’ve had nothing to gain, with either his wins or his losses, nothing to gain. All I had, was love for him, nothing else.”
