Tense scenes unfolded at the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial when Advocate Malesela Teffo made a startling claim about Kelly Khumalo.
Senzo Meyiwa murder trial: ‘Kelly Khumalo was the shooter’ – Adv. Teffo
On Wednesday, Sergeant Thabo Mosia, one of the first detectives called to the home of Khumalo’s mother, Gladys, on that fateful Sunday, 26 October 2014, returned to the stand to face cross-examination.
Teffo kept up with the momentum he’d gained during Tuesday’s questioning and hammered Mosia on the incompetencies exposed in the police’s handling of the murder investigation.
From the defence’s perspective, not only was the crime scene not well-preserved but it was wholly contaminated, and enough reason exists to support the argument that this was done on purpose.
In fact, Teffo sent gasps across the gallery when he indicated that a defence witness will testify, later on in the trial, that none of the five suspects facing charges for the murder of Meyiwa pulled that trigger.
In his own words, which you can view below, Teffo added that the eyewitness was present inside Gladys’ home, the night Khumalo allegedly shot and killed Meyiwa who, at the time, was her lover.
Moreover, this unidentified eyewitness is expected to testify that the murder weapon was allegedly brought into the house by Longwe Twala, the son of legendary South African producer Chicco Twala, Teffo teased.
"I put it to you Mr Mosia that a witness, not just a witness, an eyewitness will testify that Senzo Robert Meyiwa was allegedly shot by Nonhlanhla Kelly Khumalo by mistake, as it's alleged," says Adv. Malesela Teffo.#Newzroom405 #SenzoMeyiwatrial #SenzoMeyiwa pic.twitter.com/o4d6qYyJsb

Khumalo and Twala are not, at this time, listed as suspects in the murder of Meyiwa, albeit, the duo has, over the years, been linked to the crime in one way or the other.
Court proceedings have been adjourned until Thursday, where Mosia is expected to return to the witness stand for further cross-examination.
