EFF leader Julius Malema made several eyebrow-raising hints on the possible motive behind the vicious murder of Oupa ‘DJ Sumbody‘ Sefoka when he addressed the star’s family and friends at his funeral this past weekend.
DJ Sumbody murder: Here’s what Julius Malema said
The Ayepyep star was laid to rest in his hometown in Ga Masemola, Limpopo, on Saturday, 26 November 2022, a sombre affair attended by industry bigwigs and mourning family members.
Malema, as reported by Times Live, took the podium to share a few words of comfort with Sumbody’s family. The EFF commander-in-chief wasted no time in charging ahead with his fiery political rhetoric aimed at police and minister Bheki Cele, more specifically.
Malema riled up emotions with harsh criticism and questioned Cele’s silence on the high-profile case. In the midst of his fiery words, the EFF leader dropped hints that lent credence to rising speculation on the motive surrounding DJ Sumbody’s murder.
While calling on Cele and investigators to “find the killers of DJ Sumbody,” Malema also hinted at the possibility that the restauranteur may have “owed someone money and that person killed him because of it.”
“We’re praying the person who killed DJ Sumbody must be arrested. We are making a clarion call to the minister to arrest the person,” Malema exclaimed.
The investigation into the murder of DJ Sumbody is being handled by the Sandton police department. At this time, authorities have yet to come forward with updates on the case.
From what we know, DJ Sumbody was tailed, possibly by two vehicles, in the wee hours of Sunday, 20 November 2022, and ambushed at the corners of Woodmead and Woodlands Drive, in Sandton.
Multiple shots were fired and struck the Volkswagen Golf he and another male victim were driving and, according to police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo, “a third victim who was driving a BMW X5 was taken to a medical care centre after sustaining gunshot wounds.”
Sandton police have redirected all resources toward unravelling the faces behind the brutal death of DJ Sumbody yet a week has passed with no answers and the lingering danger of more violence since the suspects involved in the ambush are presumably still at large.
