The serial entrepreneur and music producer was viciously gunned down in Sandton, Gauteng, in the wee hours of Sunday, 20 November 2022, and days later, his murder remains unsolved with those responsible still at large.
While investigations continue, the Ayepyep franchise owner’s family has commenced with funeral and memorial plans.
In fact, in a statement, DJ Sumbody’s family confirmed the hitmaker’s memorial service will be held on Wednesday, 23 November 2022 at a venue not yet disclosed.
Proceedings are expected to kick off at 10:00 with a slew of a-list celebrities tipped to attend the all-white-themed memorial.

The Monate Mpolaye hitmaker’s funeral will follow on Saturday, 26 November 2022. The final send-off, which ought to be an industry spectacle, will be held at the Apel Fourways Cross in GaMasemola, Limpopo.

DJ Sumbody was the target of a planned ambush on the corner of Woodmead and Woodlands Drive in Sandton, in the wee hours of Sunday, 20 November 2022.
While details remain scarce on the incident, it’s believed at least two vehicles may have been involved in the shooting since both sides of the car DJ Sumbody and two of his bodyguards travelled in were riddled with bullet holes.
Online speculation has linked DJ Sumbody’s death to drug-related gang violence. However, police have yet to surface with information corroborating these claims.
In a statement quoted by Sunday World, police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo revealed that all resources have gone into tracking down the suspects responsible for the producer’s heinous death.
“Police received a complaint about a shooting incident at the corner of Woodmead and Woodlands Drive in Joburg at about 00:30. Police found two people in a VW Golf with gunshot wounds. Both victims, a driver and a passenger, were certified deat at the scene. It was reported that a third victim who was driving a BMW X5 was taken to a medical care centre after sustaining gunshot wounds,” the police confirmed.
The motive behind DJ Sumbody’s vicious murder remains unknown.
