In a formal communication, Sihle Ngubane, Secretary General of the MK Party, announced the immediate cessation of Khanyile’s leadership role within the MK Youth League.
The letter detailed that Khanyile, who had previously been affiliated with the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and the Patriotic Alliance (PA) before joining MK, would continue as a general member of the league.
“MK Party appreciates your role played thus far. Thank You,” Ngubane wrote.
This action comes in the wake of Khanyile’s increasingly controversial public appearances and statements.
Bonginkosi’s troubled tenure as Youth League leader
Khanyile’s tenure as Youth League leader was marred by several public controversies.
Most notably, a video from an MK Party meet-up went viral in March 2024, featuring Khanyile making contentious remarks about the economic and social climates during Jacob Zuma‘s presidency.
Matshela Koko, a former Eskom CEO and a prominent figure within the party criticised Khanyile on social media, suggesting that his behaviour was detrimental to the party’s image and objectives.
“This young man is doing more harm than good. Can somebody call him to order, please,” Koko tweeted.
In his viral speech, Khanyile reminisced about what he perceived as the ‘good times’ under Zuma’s administration, controversially suggesting that “tenders were more done” and the “sex trade was more happening” during those years.
These statements, particularly his derogatory comments about “blessers” and their relationships with “small women,” sparked outrage and brought his suitability as a youth leader into question.
