Bongani Fassie survived a horror panga attack, which, the musician revealed, followed a series of bizarre death threats he’s received in recent months.
Bongani Panga attack: Was it a planned assassination?
The son of Brenda Fassie, South Africa’s darling pop icon, faced death in the face when, at a traffic stop in Randburg, Johannesburg, he was attacked out of nowhere by a panga-wielding man.
Speaking to Zimoja, Fassie recalled “driving with a friend with my window down,” when he saw a man “come at me with a panga.”
“The guy was aiming for my chest but I grabbed him, tried to disarm him and he butchered my arm,” Fassie shared.
Miraculously, while the unknown panga-wielder managed to chop off a considerable chunk of Fassie’s arm, the musician had enough strength to see off his attacker and escape the situation with his life, albeit he’d lost a lot of blood, if the video he shared on his Instagram page is anything to go by.
Due to the graphic nature of the video, we will not include it in this article.
Fassie did not reveal if he’s reported the incident to police. He does, however, firmly believe there’s a target on his back and the panga attack was a planned assassination.
“Of course, someone wants me dead,” he said.
‘It should’ve been you, not AKA,’ death threats
According to Fassie, this is the third attack he’s survived in the last year or so. The Superstar rapper claims the alleged attempts on his life were always preceded by death threats, one of which involved a text from an unknown number saying “it should have been me who died instead of AKA.”
“I am not okay. I almost died. I am just glad to have lived to tell the tail. I will not lie, I am scared for my life, and I don’t know who to suspect at the moment. All I am doing is focusing on my healing and recovery,” he added.
Earlier this year, Fassie was embroiled in a heated legal battle with his baby momma, Buhle Sangweni, where both parties accused each other of assault.
At this juncture, the matter is presumably still ongoing and neither parties have addressed the issue.
