Zahara‘s sisters are alleged to have misappropriated her finances for lavish shopping while the singer undergoes critical medical treatment.
Shocking allegations surface about Zahara sisters
As the renowned Afro-pop artist fights for her life in intensive care, allegations have surfaced against her sisters, Lumka and Bandezwa Mkutukana.
According to reports, the duo is accused of taking Zahara’s bank cards and indulging in extravagant shopping sprees, despite the family’s urgent need for funds to cover Zahara’s soaring medical expenses.
According to sources close to the situation, Zahara’s sisters’ spree included purchases of counterfeit luxury goods and cheap make-up, resembling a spree more befitting of a Dubai, Paris, or New York setting.
This flagrant display of extravagance has sparked outrage, especially given the critical context of Zahara’s health crisis.
Zahara’s management, represented by Oyama Dyosiba, expressed shock at these revelations but refrained from commenting further. Lumka, when approached for a statement, abruptly ended the conversation.
The drama escalated last week when Mpho Xaba, Zahara’s traditionally married partner, reportedly denied the sisters access to the private hospital where Zahara is admitted.
Xaba’s unease grew upon overhearing discussions about life insurance rather than contributions to Zahara’s escalating medical bills. The medical expenses, primarily borne by Xaba, have reportedly reached hundreds of thousands.
A long history of liver complications exacerbated by alcohol abuse
Zahara is reportedly suffering from serious liver issues, with scarring so severe that a liver transplant might be necessary.
This is not the first time the award-winning artist has faced such a crisis.
In December 2019, she spent a month in the hospital for liver disease exacerbated by heavy drinking. Speaking to City Press at the time, her older sister Nomonde revealed the depth of Zahara’s struggles, stressing the dire warnings from doctors about her drinking habits.
“If she continues drinking, she is going to die”, her sister said at the time.
