As if Mzansi television was not brimming with competing telenovelas, M-Net is on the verge of hitting us with — cue DJ Khaled’s famous reference — another one. Legacy is set to hit our screens, bringing faces we fell in love with and hated from yester-shows.
When will Legacy premiere on DStv?
The new telenovela does not have a specific release date but according to director of M-Net channels Jan Du Plessis, it is expected to premiere in September.
All stops pulled for a star-studded cast
Legacy‘s storyline will be carried by household names in South African soapie, with the likes of Kgomotso Christopher, Michelle Botes, Mary-anne Barlow, Anton David Jeftha and Deon Lotz set to perpetuate a family at war with itself.
The best way to describe what you can expect from Legacy is imagining a soap opera made from a collection of narratives borrowed from The Bold and the Beautiful, HBO’s Succession, and a touch of Brazil’s overly dramatic telenovelas.
“Moving into this popular genre is an exciting step for the channel. We managed to sign up the most acclaimed production company currently working in this field as well as a cast that combines top-flight established soap stars and hottest up-and-coming talent.
“We’re also pulling out all the stops to ensure that ‘Legacy’ will be remembered for its arresting plots and new ways of filming,” Du Plessis told IOL News.
What is Legacy all about?
The soapie follows the story of Sebastian Price (Deon Lotz), a trailblazing investment broker whose legacy is on the verge of being leeched by his own family.
Price has to choose the right heir to take hold of the dynasty but between his wife Dineo and his ex-wife Angelique pushing their own agendas, it won’t be an easy decision to make.
Legacy will be a product of Tshedza Productions. The show will air on M-Net channel 101 exclusively for DStv Premium members.
