Mswane’s journey from pageant queen to talk show host
Lalela Mswane‘s journey to co-hosting Daily Thetha is a remarkable one.
Born in Richards Bay, in South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal province, Mswane is the daughter of Muntu Mswane, a former diplomat and minister, and Hleliselwe, who worked as an accounts clerk and homemaker.
She is the youngest of three children and holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Pretoria.
Before becoming Miss South Africa, Mswane pursued a career as a professional model, and signed with the South African modeling agency Alushi Models.
Her journey into pageantry started after participating in the Matric Experience 2015 pageant, where she finished as the first runner-up.
Her crowning moment came when she was announced as Miss South Africa 2021, following a series of interviews and public voting.
She competed in the Miss South Africa finals held on 16 October 2021, at the Grand West Arena in Cape Town, ultimately winning the prestigious title.
As Miss South Africa 2021, Mswane received an array of prizes, including R1 million, a one-year residence in a fully furnished apartment in Sandton, a one-year lease on a Mercedes-Benz C-Class, and the opportunity to represent South Africa at Miss Universe 2021.
However, her decision to compete in Miss Universe 2021, which was set to be held in Israel, led to widespread criticism in South Africa due to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The South African government eventually withdrew its support for her participation. Still, Lalela Mswane decided to compete and achieved the remarkable feat of becoming the second runner-up.
Following her journey to Miss Universe, she was appointed to represent South Africa at Miss Supranational 2022.
Her reign as Miss Supranational was marked by several accomplishments, including becoming the first black woman and South African to win the title.
As she prepares to co-host Daily Thetha, Lalela Mswane brings a wealth of experiences and achievements to her new role, making her a powerful voice for youth empowerment and personal growth.
