Kiernan ‘AKA‘ Forbes’ estate dropped off Company, the late rapper’s fourth single from the upcoming Mass Country album, on the day of his memorial service.
AKA drops ‘Company’: Here’s who appears on the credits
The duo that blazed the continent with a song that, for a moment, brought peace between Nigeria and South Africa, returned to the booth to produce what may be another classic hit single.
Kiddominant, the crooner from Fela In Versace, is credited as the sole producer and one of the songwriters on Company.
In a joint statement released by the Forbes family, Vth Season, the T Effect and Sony Music Africa, it was revealed that AKA and Kiddominant worked on the record in Los Angeles, US, during AKA’s January holiday.
Raphael Benza, AKA’s longtime friend and business partner reflected on the work the Prada rapper had invested in completing Mass Country ahead of its scheduled release date.
“Kiernan [Forbes] worked very hard on this project. The energy and the expectations from the Megacy fuelled him to make a masterpiece. We are delighted, even at our saddest moment, to share the music he left behind for us for eternity… Long live Mega, live long! The world will never forget AKA and that’s a promise,” he wrote.
AKA and his former manager, Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane, were gunned down outside a popular restaurant on Florida Road, Durban, on the evening of Friday, 10 February 2023 by two gunmen.
A week into the double murder and Durban police have yet to make any significant progress in identifying the suspects behind the attack.
To honour the life of AKA, his family, record label and business partners announced, on Thursday, that Mass Country will be released on Friday, 24 February 2023, as initially planned.
“The family continues to celebrate the life of their son. To honour his legacy, they are choosing to continue with the release of the ‘Mass Country’ album on the 24th of February 2023 as planned,” the statement read.
How to download ‘Company’ by AKA
AKA’s new single Company, produced by and featuring Kiddominant, dropped on every digital streaming platform.
Read this notice from the South African Music Rights Organisation (SAMRO) before you consider pirating the album from online bootleg sites like Fakaza:
Music piracy stunts careers, stifles talent and eats away at the ability of composers and recording artists to continue making the great music that is the soundtrack to our lives. Music piracy also takes bread off the tables of the thousands of people who work in music-related fields – from authors and composers of musical works, recording artists, to record company employees, studio producers, sound engineers and music retailers.
