We have been beating our heads for the longest time trying to figure out why 7de Laan has lost its efficiency in uploading new episodes 30 minutes after the television broadcast.
No more on-demand 7de Laan uploads for YouTube
After much confusion, it has been confirmed by the producers of the SABC 2 soapie that the on-demand online feature has been moved to Viu, a Hong Kong-based streaming service.
This means that viewers will no longer be able to watch the latest 7de Laan episodes on the day of the televised airing for free on YouTube.
“SABC 2 will introduce a new viewing platform (Viu) which we will communicate to you in the next few days. This new platform is where episodes will be uploaded immediately after they are broadcast. The YouTube ‘youbelong’ account will only receive episodes seven days after an episode has been broadcast,” the show’s press office noted in a statement.
What is Viu?
If you fall in the middle-to-higher income class, you may have never heard of Viu. The streaming service has taken over South Africa by storm and it has its eyes set on providing on-demand streaming content to the low-income class.
SABC has struck a content deal with Viu, the details of which are not exactly known at this time. However, every soapie on SABC — as well as other local and Asian titles — is available to stream on the platform.
You can either access the streaming service by visiting the website or you can download the Viu app on your device. 7de Laan episodes and other SABC content are available to stream for free, with no need to sign up or a monthly subscription fee.
All you have to do to stay in touch with your favourite soapie is to download Viu from your device’s app store to enjoy the latest episodes of 7de Laan.
