On Tuesday, Eskom announced a pause in loadshedding just in time for the Easter weekend, sparking a flicker of hope among residents for untethered power supply.
In a statement, the power utility cited the expected return of 2,300MW of generation capacity by Friday and a forecasted decrease in electricity demand over the holiday period as key factors in its decision to suspend loadshedding.
“Eskom will provide an update for the week ahead on Sunday afternoon or communicate should any significant changes occur,” the utility noted.

Update on breakdowns and available capacity
The last state of the power system update was on Tuesday, 26 March 2024.
At the time, Eskom reported more than 13,840MW of generation capacity lost to breakdowns, with an additional 5,066MW offline due to several units placed out of commission for planned maintenance.
