In a statement released on Sunday, Eskom confirmed that the suspension of loadshedding would be extended until further notice “due to the sustained available generation capacity, adequate emergency reserves, and anticipated lower demand at the beginning of the week ahead.” Thereafter, outages will return at Stage 2 until 05:00, with this pattern expected to remain in place until further notice.
“Eskom will provide a system update on Wednesday or communicate any significant changes should they occur,” the utility said.
The current state of Eskom’s power system indicates that unplanned outages account for 13 579MW of generating capacity, with an additional 7 046MW out of service for planned maintenance.
