Wendy Williams‘s diagnosis of aphasia and dementia has been officially confirmed by her team.
Wendy Williams team confirms she has aphasia and dementia
In a statement, Williams’s team shared an important update regarding her health condition, aiming to correct misconceptions and halt the spread of harmful rumours.
After a series of comprehensive medical examinations conducted by specialists at Weill Cornell Medicine, Williams was diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia (FTD).
These conditions, which impair communication and cognitive functions, have posed significant challenges in her daily life.
“The decision to share this news was difficult and made after careful consideration, not only to advocate for understanding and compassion for Wendy, but to raise awareness about aphasia and frontotemporal dementia and support the thousands of others facing similar circumstances. Unfortunately, many individuals diagnosed with aphasia and frontotemporal dementia face stigma and misunderstanding, particularly when they begin to exhibit behavioral changes but have not yet received a diagnosis,” the statement read.
Williams’ long history of health issues
Wendy Williams has faced multiple health challenges over the years, including Graves’ Disease and Lymphedema, alongside other significant issues.
Concerns about her health first shot up in the public domain when she fainted on her show in 2017 due to dehydration.
A year later, she revealed her struggles with hyperthyroidism linked to Graves’ Disease.
Williams has been candid about her health, including living in a sober house and dealing with vertigo and lymphedema, which causes swelling in her ankles.
Despite all these health complications, the former talk show host’s team assured her fans that “Wendy is still able to do many things for herself.”
“Most importantly she maintains her trademark sense of humour and is receiving the care she requires to make sure she is protected and that her needs are addressed. She is appreciative of the many kind thoughts and good wishes being sent her way,” the statement read.
