The AKA memorial service takes place at the Sandton Convention Centre on Friday and the Johannesburg Metro Police Department has issued a notice on these road closures.
AKA memorial service: Avoid these roads closures on Friday, 17 February 2023
Thousands of fans are expected to turn up at the memorial service which, the Forbes family, has tagged a celebration of the Company rapper’s life.
In a statement quoted by Jacaranda FM, JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla advised motorists to “acquaint themselves with traffic management for the day and to please be patient during the duration of the service.”
To control traffic flow, the metro police department will implement road closures on the following routes until 18:00 on Friday.
- Maude and Fifth Streets;
- Maude and West Streets;
- Alice and Fifth Streets;
- West and Katherine Streets;
- West and Rivonia Road; and
- West and Duodar Streets.
AKA’s memorial service takes place amid new developments in the death of his late fiancee, Anele Tembe.
In an explosive letter seen by City Press, attorneys representing the Tembe family lambasted the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) for refusing to pursue a case against the rapper, whom they believe, was solely responsible for the 22-year-old’s fatal fall from the 10th floor of a Cape Town boutique hotel.
The letter, sent two weeks after the NPA in the Western Cape notified the family of their decision to halt prosecution in the case pending the conclusion of an ongoing inquest, in June 2022, listed shocking evidence that, in their opinion, presents enough reason to charge the rapper with Anele’s murder and rule out suicide as the cause of death.
AKA and his former manager Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane were viciously murdered on Friday, 10 February 2022, as they exited a popular eatery on Florida Road, in Durban.
Both victims will be laid to rest in separate funerals reserved for family and close friends.
An attempt was lodged by Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi to award AKA a state funeral, but this was rejected by the Presidency.
AKA and Tibz’s killers are still at large.
