Free State authorities have launched a province-wide search for nine-year-old Boipelo Mesi, who went missing on Tuesday 1 September 2020.
Where was Boipelo Mesi last seen alive?
According to police spokesperson Colonel Thandi Mbambo, Mesi’s mother Lynette Sesele filed a missing person case after she could not find her daughter where she had left her.
Sesele last saw Mesi alive at approximately 13:00 on Spring Day. She was playing near their home in Maokeng, Kroonstad with her friends.
Thinking nothing of it, Sesele left to visit her friend in Phomolong, a neighbouring community situated in Hennenman, about 71km away.
When she returned from the 58-minute trip, later that day, Mesi, it seems, had fallen off the face of the earth. Sesele looked everywhere for her daughter.
Panicked and fearing for the worse, she gathered up the friends Mesi was playing with that afternoon and interrogated each of them on her daughter’s whereabouts.
This is the priority lead police are following
What they told her sent chills down her spine, ours too. According to the friends, Mesi was seen talking to a tall man with blue overalls.
It seems that a man had lured the nine-year-old with the prospect of buying her goods at a nearby tuck shop. However, the friends told Sesele, she never came back.
It has been two days since Mesi disappeared and at this time, the priority lead for police is tracking down the tall man with blue overalls.
Without further distinctive details of the man, it’s a mounting task for investigators.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Mesi, or know of a man that doesn’t have children but was recently seen with a nine-year-old in the Free State, is encouraged to contact the Investigating Officer, Detective Captain Mamohale Sompane at 082 854 7547 or Crime Stop at 08600 10111.
