As reported by News24, Ngubane, 33, desires to continue his Uber driving occupation, citing a loss of income if he remains incarcerated.
The court heard that on the fateful day of Gumbi’s assassination, Ngubane was hired to transport individuals to Rustenburg, as confirmed by the North West National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson, Henry Mamothame.

The businessman’s assassination unfolded in the Rustenburg CBD on 23 August 2023, where he was fatally shot by two individuals upon his arrival at a restaurant, with the horrifying incident witnessed by patrons and staff.
The case took a significant turn on 12 September 2023 when Ngubane was apprehended in Germiston by a multi-disciplinary team, following his appearance in court for an unrelated armed robbery charge, for which he is currently out on R3,000 bail.
Besides, Ngubane has a pending case regarding possession of a firearm and ammunition in Alberton, with a bail set at R1,000.
The court also acknowledged potential threats to Ngubane’s life from three other suspects believed to be involved in Gumbi’s murder, though Ngubane testified that his life wouldn’t be at risk if granted bail.

Meanwhile, law enforcement continues their pursuit of the three additional suspects.
Interestingly, videos shared by Gumbi online before his assassination indicated that he was aware of threats to his life, particularly concerning a smart city development near Sun City in Ledig, Rustenburg, under his company Kubu’s purview.
Gumbi asserted in one video that despite threats to burn the Gumbi homestead and himself, the development project would continue unabated, emphasising his faith in the legal system to uphold justice.
