Rustenburg police cordoned off a section of Kock Street on Wednesday after a man was brazenly assassinated, a gory spectacle that was captured on CCTV.
UPDATE: In a statement released shortly after this article was published, police confirmed a case of murder was opened to determine the motive behind the alleged assassination. Moreover, reports indicate a vehicle possibly linked to the incident was found abandoned less than 3km away, on Lourie Road.
Rustenburg man assassinated on Kock Street and it was caught on CCTV
Details about the incident were sketchy when this article was published. However, metadata found on the CCTV video showed the harrowing moments an unidentified male was killed in cold blood by two armed men.
The incident took place at approximately 07:54 on Wednesday, 23 August 2023. The footage, taken from the entrance security cameras of a cafe situated next to the PSG Wealth offices on Kock Street, showed a man standing outside the establishment, completely distracted by his phone.
A woman, who may prove to be a key eyewitness, was about to take a seat at one of the tables nearest to the entrance when, suddenly, her peaceful morning was disturbed by the raucous sounds of gunfire.
Right when the woman was taking a seat, two men crept up on the unsuspecting male victim and delivered deathly gunshots to his head, killing him instantly.
To mark the brutality of the assassination, the gunmen emptied their cartridges on the male victim before fleeing on foot.

Authorities were at the scene of the assassination collecting evidence and interviewing key eyewitnesses when this article was published.
At this juncture, it remains unclear how the CCTV footage surfaced on social media.
