A section of the N1 highway in Johannesburg was cordoned off on Saturday afternoon, following a deadly shooting that involved well-renowned Gupta liquidator Cloete Murray and his son.
UPDATE: Police confirmed in a statement that Cloete Murray died in hospital on Sunday morning, a day after he and his son, Thomas, were gunned down on the N1 highway, near the Newroad off-ramp in Midrand.
The suspects involved in the double murder are still at large and considered armed and dangerous.

Details on the incident are still sketchy at this time. However, according to reports, police responded to an active shooting near the Newroad off-ramp in Midrand, on Saturday afternoon.
Furthermore, News24 reports revealed that Murray, a respected liquidator, who was at the centre of the dissolution of Gupta-linked Bosasa (now operating as African Global Operations), was with his son, Thomas, at the Engen Big Bird Stop, when unknown figures opened fire on them.
From what we understand, Thomas, who worked as a legal advisor, was fatally struck in the N1 shooting, while his father sustained life-threatening injuries and was still alive when police and paramedics arrived at the scene.
Police sources close to the situation confirmed that Murray was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
“The two men, reportedly a father and son, were travelling together when their vehicle was shot at by unknown suspects. The son was fatally shot, while the father sustained injuries and was taken to hospital,” the police noted.
At this time, police are still collecting information on the shooting and, from what we understand, a case of murder has been opened for investigation.
No suspects were arrested at the time this article was published.
