Law enforcement authorities have made notable progress in the investigation of the brazen robbery that occurred at Jabulani Mall last week.
Jabulani Mall robbery: Police make breakthrough arrests
The incident, which unfolded at Jabulani Mall, saw a group of armed suspects executing a meticulously planned robbery at an unnamed store inside the popular shopping centre in Soweto, Johannesburg.
According to Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, the suspects entered the store wearing masks and brandishing firearms, making off with an undisclosed sum of money.
The operation involved a high degree of coordination and sophistication.
Outside the shopping mall, gob-smacked eyewitnesses captured footage of armed men intimidating motorists with fully loaded assault rifles.

Col Nevhuhulwi revealed that the robbery was orchestrated by a total of nine suspects.
While some were directly engaged in robbing the business, others were strategically positioned to manage entrances and exits, ensuring a swift getaway.
Two individuals were stationed at the main entrance of the mall, while four others, also armed, were positioned on a nearby street.
The suspects executed their escape using two distinct vehicles – a blue BMW and a white Toyota Quantum.
Despite firing shots during their getaway, no injuries were reported among bystanders or law enforcement officials at the scene.
The breakthrough in the case can be attributed to the diligent efforts of law enforcement, who acted on intelligence-driven information.
One of the suspects was apprehended in Mofolo, Soweto, where it was revealed that he was out on bail for a separate case involving business robbery.
Subsequent interviews and investigations led the police to two more suspects at Nancefield Hostel in Klipspruit, Soweto.
While these arrests mark a significant stride in the case, the police’s work is far from over.
Authorities are actively pursuing leads to locate and apprehend the remaining six suspects involved in the robbery.
The three suspects apprehended are scheduled to make their appearance in court on Thursday, 10 August 2023, where they will face charges related to the Jabulani Mall robbery.
